Overalls & Coveralls
Work overalls can be hard-wearing and durable, or lightweight and disposable – heavy-duty overalls can be suitable for demanding areas in construction, engineering or agricultural industries, while single-use coveralls provide a lighter and quicker alternative that you can slip into when you’re in a rush.
Overalls vs Coveralls
What’s the difference between overalls and coveralls? The two terms are often used to describe the same item of clothing, but there is one technical difference between them – traditionally, work overalls cover the legs and body but incorporate a bib and straps that leave your arms exposed, while coveralls provide full body coverage.
Boiler Suits
Boiler suits are a type of coverall to be worn as protective clothing over the top of your casual wear. Made from hard-wearing materials, a boiler suit can stand up to the rigours of everyday use in tough environments – it’s a particularly popular choice in farming and agriculture alongside mechanical, engineering and automotive industries.
Overall FAQs
Why should you wear overalls when working?
One of the main benefits of wearing overalls is that they’re designed to keep you clean. Painting and decorating? Working in a garage, factory, workshop or outdoors? Wearing overalls and boiler suits over your clothes will protect you and your clothes from spillages, splatter, dust, debris, paint, oil, grease, dirt and chemicals. Depending on the nature of the work you’re undertaking, overalls may need to be worn in conjunction with safety goggles, face masks, gloves and work boots.
How do I choose a work overall?
The nature of your work will help you select suitable work overalls. If you work with hazardous dust, a protective coverall with an elasticated waist, ankles, and cuffs is best. Our cotton painter’s bib and brace work overalls are ideal if you’re painting and decorating. It’s advisable to go up a size to fit other layers of clothing underneath comfortably.
